Time Strategies

Since this class is online, it is going to take much more self discipline than previous classes that I have taken. I know that I struggle with managing online classes, so I have set aside specific times to work on just this class throughout the week. Even so, I'm sure this class will still give me trouble so if anyone has any suggestions that might help me, then please let me know!

Technology Overview

The technology in this course is definitely more than in any other class I've taken since I was in the College of Architecture. At first I was not excited at all about it since I was thinking it would take more time to figure certain stuff out on the computer then it would to complete the assignment, but now I am seeing how in the end it will help me.

Assignments Overview

I am excited for the assignments in this class. They seem very straightforward and like they will be educational not just for this class but beneficial in life. The extra credit is very intriguing because they it is not just busy work. They seem more like an extra opportunity to learn something new that might be interesting.

Growth Mindset Thoughts

Growth mindset was a completely new way of thinking about learning for me. It was very intriguing for me to learn that focusing on the process can lead to the most growth instead of just focusing on the outcome. I had not heard about this before, but look forward to putting it in place in my classwork and other jobs!

Introduction to Tatum the Hopeful Chiropractor

     Hey everyone!

So my name is Tatum Chapman and I am currently a senior HES student. I plan on going to chiropractic school starting August of 2021. I actually just got accepted to Parker University in Dallas TX, so that dream is finally coming true. I came into college as an Architectural Engineering major, but like a lot of freshman I had no idea what I wanted to do. I've always been fascinated with the human body and how all the different muscles and bones work together, and I look forward to learning more about it and applying to everything I do. My favorite things to do are golfing, exercise, and just hanging out with people I like to be around. I have a 7 year old golden doodle who is the best dog I could ask for. I wish I lived somewhere in Norman that would allow me to bring him with me, but sadly I just have to make frequent trips home to see him. Haha I've recently gotten really big into coffee so if anyone has any good methods of brewing besides pour over and french press, I am all ears! I am from Moore, OK and plan on living here my whole life to be close to family and friends. I enjoyed growing up with my cousins and hope that my children get the same opportunity. I am excited for this class because I am an avid reader, but need to force myself to read different genres then I typically stick to. My usual books of choice are along the lines of spies and adventures. My favorite series of all time is the Alex Hawke series by Ted Bell. Reading stories about mythology and folklore will definitely help to broaden my horizons in ways I am not even aware of at the moment.

Storybook Favorites

Below are a list of three of my favorite storybooks from past semesters as well as a little recap for each one. Enjoy!

Urban Legends of Texas (https://sites.google.com/view/urban-legends-of-texas/home)

This Storybook is about different urban legends that took place in Texas. This storybook has a very good introduction that gives a good overview of each story that they are going to talk about. They cover three different stories: The Donkey Lady, Woman Hollering Creek, and a Ghost Near White Rock Lake. They then have three different pages on their website that retells the stories with their own twist.

The Greatest Trickster (https://sites.google.com/view/a-clash-of-tricksters/the-fox)

This Storybook is a little bit different in that it does not have an introduction that explains what the whole storybook is going to be about. It rather jumps right into a story about a fox that is the beginning of the story called The Greatest Trickster. The next page on the website is a story about a rabbit that the author wrote by mixing two Brer Rabbit stories together. The next page is about the Tanuki which is the trickster of Japan. The author was very creative in intertwining multiple stories to create the "world tour of tricksters" as they call it.

A Whole New World (https://sites.google.com/view/a-whole-new-world/introduction)

This Storybook is about Aladdin but with its own twist. Aladdin's princess comes from a poor family and she ends up showing Aladdin a "Whole New World". He also introduces a trickster that is trying to break apart his relationship with the princess. The next pages are all about this author's Aladdin story and the different twists and turns. They do a very good job of almost just completely making up their own story. I can definitely learn from this and get as creative as possible with my storybook.

Favorite Place: Grand Lake

My parents have a house at Grand Lake in Monkey Island, Oklahoma. It is definitely one of my favorite places because it is a getaway where I get to spend time with family and friends. It has been even more of a getaway with everything that is going on in the world today. Up there it is like Covid-19 isn't even happening!

My dad and I love to golf, so we do plenty of that when we are up there. Their house is on the Shangri-La Resort golf course which gives us plenty of opportunities to do what we love.
